Thanks for the comments.
The coccinea I bought from an auction, the arbuscula and the balano were from thecaptivereef, and the duncan was bought from someone locally. |

I like the duncans myself. A LFS here in Columbus has single polyps for $80 a polyp. His grow like crazy, very tempting.

Thanks.
80 bucks sounds like a very good price considering how rare they are in the US. Dendros are almost that same price but are already a whole lot more common. |

I've been looking for a Duncanopsammia for almost 10 years. I finally bribed someone for a head and a half in March.
And I agree, they are fast growers. Couple new polyps in May It's really taken off since then. August It's 12 full polyps now. It's closed up in that pic. When it's fully open, it looks like a mass of tentacles, so you can't see all the new branches.

Ditto that!
I didn't know they can grow that fast! I've had 8 polyps (2 big, 6 small) and haven't noticed any new polyps growing since June. What kind of flow and lighting do you have yours under? And how often do you feed? I've been trying to feed mine every day, sometimes just 5 days/week if I'm busy. |

Actually I take that back, I just spotted one new polyp growing, but it's only like 1 mm wide now. Growth is nowhere as fast as yours though, Randy.

I was feeding it around twice a week from March to June. The summer has been busy, and I've only fed a few times in July and August. This is the first time I've looked at it where it didn't have any new baby buds. So maybe it's growth will slow because of the limited feedings. It's on the bottom of my 40 breeder, under 2 96 w PC lights. I keep it in a container, protected for all other corals. It gets low, indirect flow. I think because of the lower light, it looks very stringy.

Thanks for the info Randy. I've been feeding it every day, so hopefully that'll help speed up the growth.
paininthewrasse, you probably saw Rhizotrochus typus. I don't have one, but that's next on my list. |

oh boy, it makes me sad. Duncans are cheap as chips over here, they pretty much dont sell. (you will find a whole colony with 30 or so heads for $30 AUD or 23USD). But we pay 100USD + for redline cleaners.

hehe, i knew you guys were suckers for acans etc, but i just never thought that dendros would be so expensive over there. You just see a dinnerplate size colony in the shops and walk right past it here, they pretty much dont sell that well.

You can get adult polyps online for about 60-80. Fish store prices are almost always higher.
