MH base repair
Ok, interesting problem, I have a relatively new Metal Halid, single ended XM bulb. Which, has become disconnected from its threaded base. Is there any way I can reattach the base to the glass? Or is this bulb history?
I don't have any receipts etc to return this bulb, so I am kinda relying on somehow making this work. Any help is appreciated!! Thanks! Best Regards Chad |

I'd say that this transcends the DIY realm... Time for a new bulb.
This hobby has broken me from the habit of throwing away my receipts. |

There are two wires that lead from the base to the bulb to supply power. When the base twisted off it also probably twisted the wires around each other if not off.
The bulb is junk. Tim

Actually the wires did not twist, the base of the bulb literally slipped loose with mild pressure when I was unscrewing it.
Could I just use a wire to suspend the free end of the bulb? Or will there be some sort of fire hazard from the heat? Thanks for the responses so far |

Use hi-temp epoxy and try it out. Make darn sure those wires are nowhere near touching.

And when you first start it back up watch the base to bulb area really carefully....If the wires DID get too close to each other you might just see the "magic puff of smoke"....I saw it when experimenting with some LED's just last week.....OOOOOOOO.....pretty......

All electronic devices have smoke built in. It takes a steady hand to avoid letting the smoke out

Also make sure u seal the glass well, its primary purpose is safety and to keep UV from blasting your tank. If u leave the raw energy from the arc unfiltered (via the glass) you will nuke your tank.
