Wintry Mix
Man am I glad I don't live here any more!
My daughter and her husband just had a baby, so I came up to Boston to help out (and of course to nerdle on the baby)..... Today one of my chores was to go to the grocery store. I had already been in Boston for a few days, dealing with the traffic and potholes and rude people. I go into the grocery store, and it smells absolutely terrible! I had forgotten how bad these old grocery stores smell. It's like every speck of spilled food that has been there for the last century is still there, adding to the overall experience. It's so crowded that I can't maneuver my cart, and I finally give up on even trying to get fresh vegetables at all. The cashier doesn't look at me, and I have to figure out for myself what I owe him because he can't be bothered to tell me. I get outside to find that the rain has turned to ice which froze all over my car, and now there is snow landing on top of THAT. The ride home is on roads which should be one-lane but are being driven on like they're three-lane, full of potholes, with "wintry mix" all over everything and flying at my windshield. Of course, all three wiper blades: left right and rear -- are going full speed. I am SO glad I don't live here any more! --gayle

ah - I spent about 20 years in Connecticut and can relate to what you're saying....
You know - we had snow here too this year!! It was a half inch and melted the next day in 65 degree sunshine...

James-I'll take my wintery mix anyday if it means I don't have to worry about my house blowing away every summer!!

Hehe, another day at my daughter's house, and back now at my OTHER daughter's house (where I'm staying) and all the way back I froze my butt off and said "Thank golly I don't live here any more!"
Then I got online to find an invitation from a freind of mine in TN, he's putting together a volleyball game at the local park and I'm invited. Tonight From here in MA, volleyball looks like a distant dream. I wrote him back to be sure to invite me again next week when I'm home! Jamescurq, great to talk to another ex-northerner; makes you wonder why we put up with it so long, huh Ninapearl, I have heard stories about Minnesota. It does sound pretty, though. DC, you are indeed missing a lot. Of cold. Ice. etc. sfaribault, my dad used to do something similar in Montana where I grew up, only it was a sled tied behind the car and he would drive down the mountain. Man, what parents used to get away with!! I am glad to say I will be leaving this armpit in roughly 48 hours ---gayle
