skimmer help

ok i have a 46 gal tank with a small wet dry being used for a sump. for christmas i am gonna get an asm g2 skimmer due to i am upgrading to a 75 gal. in the near future. the prob. is the skimmer i have now is a POS. and i would like to use the asm on this tank till the 75 is up and running, however the footprint says 10 x 11 which is to big to fit the sump in the 46 gal. is there a way to run it external? or i could prob. put a 10 gal tank under there and it should fit in there. also would that skimmer be bad to be running on that small of a tank for a few monthes?

TIA

You can't run it externally, I don't think, but the 10g might work. If you can make it fit and avoid overheating (probably not an issue), the tank and the skimmer should be okay indefinitely. You might want to check how deep the water needs to be for the skimmer to work.
