Dr Roy -- anatomical diagram?

Dr. Roy,

Is there a diagram available online somewhere that has detailed labeling of stomatopod anatomy? For instance, you often make reference to "the Nth thoracic tergite" for various values of "N", but I don't know if you start counting at the telson or at the carapace. There are several other such confusions on my part. A picture would avoid a thousand emails

Thanks!
Dan

Dan,
Check Dr. Roy's "External Anatomy and Explanatory Notes" page for a few terms:
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthrop...ist/notes.html

I actually dug up a biology text for a more detailed schematic, but I didn't note the authors... I can send you a pic of the image though. Let me know.

If you copy the labeled drawing of the P. ciliata that I have posted, only a few additions should make the drawing more useful. The cephalothorax has 8 segments. The first 5 each have a pair of maxillipeds coming off of them and the segmentation is not visible (under the carapace). Thoracic segments 6, 7, and 8 each have a pair of walking legs. (count from front to back). The abdomen has 6 segements. 1-5 each have a pair of pleopods and 6 has a pair of uropods.. The terminal segment is the telson.

About the only other terms I often use describe the top, sides or bottom of a segement's cuticle. Tergite is top, plurite is the side and sternite is the bottom.

I would love some sort of schematic mockup / blueprint for a desktop background or poster

Like a top / underside view type of dissection model

Something like these pictures, but of a stomatopod

Any aspiring artists feeling generous?
