I'm interested to hear how this goes

You guys need to report on how successful this endeavor is. He may be a source of high quality Hawaiian livestock at excellent prices.

There is a LOT to take into account when buying this way. Just a few things
Do these prices include the import fees and taxes, if not add about $4 per item
Who is receiving this and do they have experince dealing with highly stressed out animals. there are a lot of LFS that do not ship from such a distance due to the stress and loss of corals associated with it.
This is not keep it in the bag till someone picks it up this evening. It is get to O'Hare and be there the second the boxes are released and rush home to get everything out of the shipping water NOW, no waiting. Very stressfull.
I would suggest that you either find someone who has experince in receiving such animals or don't do this at all.
Should you figure "how hard can it be" Please limit yourself to a box or two. If this goes through and you are successful with a box, then do it again. Don't go for the gusto on the first shipment.

Good advice there.

And everyone will want to be very clear on who covers DOAs or deaths shortly after arrival. I'm betting the Hawaii guy won't, and I doubt the buy organizer wants to, so folks may well be putting money down and getting nothing (a word of advice to the buy organizer - get the money in advance, or you WILL be out money for fish deaths and buyers who reneg at the last minute).

Good luck!

Kevin

i have purchased from him before for a LFS and myself and he doesnt cover any loses and there is no promise you would get what you ordered. he has to go catch all of these fish or get them from someone else if he cant get them himself. they are not just sitting there waiting to be shipped. also make sure you QT everything that you get. also the fish havent been offered prepared foods yet so may be tough to get them to eat.. i would also suggest doing a small order first. if you are happy then go for more. im not saying that he isnt a good source for some hard to get items or even everyday items at a cheaper price, but remember there are a lot of risks you will be taking that your LFS normally does for you. im also interested to see how this goes as i havent dealt with him in awhile. he is very hard to get ahold of from my experience. good luck and please keep us posted on what happens. hopefully all works out for you.

I am yet to find out response back on any level of communication(either phone calls or emails). I am leaning towards requesting a short order initially and build trust from then on.

Esdayal, did you get a larger tank? That is way too much Tang for a 46 gal.

I contacted him by phone, email, and PM...

Let him know that I am a hobbist and he said that the there was someone from here already sent him a email and that we should do one buy. I asked if he sold to hobbist directly and he said yes.

Well if you guys are getting 2 different stories then I would be careful.

"If you are interested in ordering, I have many hobbiest in your area waiting for items. I am just waiting for a distributor like yourself to take care of them and perhaps make them consistant customers etc. I dont really ship to hobbiest"

Sorry for trying to protect CMAS...

How is CMAS at risk? Or do you just mean looking out for the members (or, more accurately, since the minority here are members, looking out for the locals?)

But curious if somehow CMAS is at risk.
