Confused about drilling holes in tank.
Hi Reefers,
After giving my reef tank to my dad, I am starting a new one but this time the display tank with have drilled holes and a sump.( makes the display look much better without skimmer in there etc) I went to a LFS and asked for a 6x2x2 with drilled holes on the bottom so I can pump water to and from my sump, the LFS told me it will crack and he wont do it and if he did he would not give me a refund if he did and it cracked) I told him basically everyone in the world does this but he did not believe me. Now I got to travel very far to get it done. Could you guys give me examples (pics would be nice) of how your tanks are set up concerning the drilled holes for the plumbing to the sump.(also how your sump is set up) This is to show the next LFS how it is done just in case. I've been 2 years without a tank and the bug has got me once again after looking at some of the tanks on here. Thanks in advance Jim. PS sorry about the essay :P

the LFS would have to order the tank predrilled. the glass on the bottom of that size tank will have tempered glass and can't be drilled.

Holes in tank
I set up a 75 gallon and had the holes drilled in the sides near the top.
I used pvc elbows in the tank and can actually control the amount of flow to the sump by raising or lowering the elbows. I hard mounted all the hardware from the holes to the sump with shut off valves. It came out pretty good without a lot of effort. If you want I can send you photos Bryan |

I just had my LFS order a 75g Perfecto from Perfecto Mfg. in Indiana. They specified the bottom to be untempered and they drilled 3 holes exactly where I wanted them. It worked out great and still has their warranty in place.
