Hey Misfit,

Care to estimate the accelaration of a Carrie when a 200lb force is applied to her buttom?

(Assume impact loading with a instantaneous application of force and zero losses to friction or deformation of padding.)

we may need a much greater mass to her buttom to get movement.

That will depend if I'm wearing my "fat pants" or my "sexy pants"

Go back to the fundamentals, Force equals Mass times Acceleration.

I gave you the force applied. You just need to assume a mass, assume a direction for the force applied, and calculate the effects of gravity.

I also gave you friction equal to zero so if you assume the kick is in the horizontal plane and gravity is in the vertical plane then you only need to guess her mass.

Be sure to keep your units in the same system though, mixing metric and english is almost as dangerous as guessing her mass.

Hey Misfit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been thinking about the directions I gave you on the second problem and I think I was wrong about the datum thing.

I believe you need to sum the moments about the centriod of the shape. In the case of a rectangle, that's just the center of the rectangle. Please let me know what your teacher says about the problem as I'm curious as to the correct approach.
