Question Custom Avatar

What dimensions do I need to make a custom avatar? The file I am trying to use, I started with a file at 150 pixels x 150 pixels at 72 DPI, and it says "file size to big"

I sized the file down in small increments till I got to 36 pixels x 36 pixels at 72 DPI and it is still to big! HELP!!!

You can barely see this image at this point and it still says to big. What am I doing wrong?

In photoshop, set the image size to 150 x 150 pixles. Then, when you save as, there is an option to save to a certain file size. This will format the photo and strip information out of the picture to make the file the size required. Re-open the file to make sure it doesn't look terrible.

The save to file size option removed color information in the photo to make the picture smaller. It doesn't shrink it.

i think the dimensions were ok, but the actual size in bytes was too big. photoshop you can decrease quality until it is good enough.
