Could my LFS possibly be wrong? :)
My LFS is telling me that running 20k Radium bulbs might be problematic running on Icecap electronic ballasts.
If they are right, what's the best ballast to run Radiums with? |

Hmmm... Is it possible that they could be wrong? YES.
Will running Radiums be problematic? Iv'e never heard of this one before, I'm curious myself, don't know why it wouldn't work...

The only thing negative I have heard about Radium’s is their short life span (6 months) and I would think running them on an efficient electronic ballast such as IceCap would actually help more than hinder. That said, I hear good things about the 20000k XMs.

Radiums run much better off of HQI magnetic ballasts. Running them off of electronics is just a waste of time and money, since they will be putting out almost no PAR and your corals will suffer from it.

You might like it better to run a 14K off of an electronic, like an aquaconnect or phoenix. These are going to run pretty blue on an electronic ballast. If you want to stick to 20K then go with the XM.

Hi Rich, you may want to post your question on Ice Caps forum, they are real good at answering, and IMO, pretty honest as well. Mike
