HELP.."cobweb" all over tank

I am not sure what happened, my params were all normal when i left yesterday. came back, and I saw a cobweb like slime on my tank and the water was cloudy...it was late and thenighlights were on, so i went to bed. I woke up and saw my fish hating life, and my skimmer going nuts. my rics all closed up.

I did a 50% water change instantly.

I just put a skimmer on my tank..did it somehow cause this? where does this cobweb stuff come from? it is all over my glass...should i stop skimming?

a very wierd thing that could end up killing off my tank it looks like.

hard to say without a picture/ more info. right off the bat the cobweb stuff sounds like something from some sort of filter feeder...vermatid snail maybe.

cloudy H20...do you have a fuge setup? sounds like macro going sexual maybe.

nope..bare bottom, no fuge. It literally looks like white stress slime. the crappy part is that the whole tank is dying and there is not much I can do..my skimmer is pulling out tons of dry foam. I did a water change and I dont know what else I can do. I think my clown are going to die..it is pretty depressing to see.

Do you have anything in the tank that could have died to cause this? Cucumber? Anenome?

When my anenome got caught in a power head I had something similar to what you describe.

Like Bleach???? Were you running ozone? The skimmer would not have caused this. You don't have a QT tank to move your livestock to? I would set up 5 gallon buckets and get what I could out of there anyway.

not running ozone..but what is wierd is that the picollo skimmer says it can be used as an ozone reactor..i dont get that at all..it is a counter current skimmer.

Think about anything you might have done differently in the past day or so? Did something fall in there?

Did one of your pumps melt down?

Put the livestock in buckets of fresh salt water.

You added the skimmer right before this happened?

I think there was some substance on the pump or skimmer that contaminated the tank. Did you rinse it first? What kind of skimmer? Could it be sucking in contaminated air from outside?
