Diatom filter or Alternative?

I was thinking of getting a diatom filter to cleanup my water when I blow off detritus and stuff during my water changes. I would only use this filter temporarily to clean the water.

Does anyone know of good alternatives to a diatom filter or are they the best option? Also which diatom filter is best?

I bought one. Used it once, and the stupid thing blows micro bubbles all over. It now has a place in storage.

Just get a hot magnum and use it as a diatom filter with the micron filter. Works great for me.

i purchased a diatom XL filter and it tossed a lot of airbubbles into the water. i was told after calling support that this is due to a faulty seal. they have shipped me a new one that w ill hopefully fix the problem. I hope it arrives soon.
