Caulerpa removal

Does anyone have any experience removing caulerpa from their tank? I'm not really sure that's what this is, but there is this fern-looking algae growing in the middle of some hair algae that I am battling. Can it just show up like that?

Yeah, I had a species of seaweed just show up on me, it was halmeda...If there is a spore or some of the root left behind it can regrow... I let mine grow for a while then moved it to the places in the tank that I wanted it. I prune it weekly and only allow it to grow in the backs and a couple stalks throughout the tank. Personally I think it adds to the asthetics of the tank as it looks more natural and the fish that I have really like it, plus caulerpa can be extremely beneficial in the removal of waste in the water...Caulerpa can actually be beneficial in your case because it can out-compete a lot of the lower life form algaes such as hair algae etc, if you let it go for a while you may see the hair algae start to subside...If you really dont want it just pull it out.
