Generally, young and adult Tridacnids have a harder time dealing with shipping and acclimating to tanks conditions if wild caught.
5.5" is a good, average size. It seemed a lot bigger than that. If you don't mind my asking, where'd this guy come from? Poor thing may have been in holding tanks and transport for awhile. Might explain why there's a lack of white shell growth.
