aquascaping
Anyone have any info on aquascaping?? Tips, tricks, or techniques??
I'm planning a 300 gal build and I want to do it right the first time. I'm sure there is a thread with different aquascaping architecture but I can't find anything. My tank will be viewed from the front and back so there's a bit more of a challenge to the aquascaping. Not sure if I want pillars or an arch or just what I want to do but, I'd sure appreciate it if somebody could provide me with different examples and ideas. Jeremy |

I'm going to try something like this. The guy in the thread used the same technique for a wall and some islands.

Great pics. Thanks.
I think the foam aquascaping is an incredible idea!! I'm just worried about toxicity. Has anyone used this idea?? How did it turn out??? I can't imagine that the foam won't hurt such delicate inverts like corals and nems, but I'm astounded to see his tank looking so good. I'm baffled. Does anyone have any further evidence that the foam "Great Stuff" won't cause harm in a reef tank??? What type of epoxy was being used?? Does anyone have any info that epoxy and/or foam in a reef tank is stable long term (three years down the road it won't begin to break down and kill everything!!)? The use of this foam and epoxy has great potential for aquascaping but I need a bit more evidence that it's safe before I try it. Hope someone else has had success with it. Jeremy |

I used the foam for the back of my tank and it looks awesome and no harm at all. Plus it is very porous and after a while I bet it will replace at least about 50-75lbs. of live rock, after if becomes live. Also I siliconed some pvc pipes, to make swim throughs for fish and inverts. Then just foamed over them on the back of the tank. Looks awesome and it just adds a little spice if you ask me.

Less is more! Particularly if you have a sump, put your live rock there so you have more room for stuff in the display. I'm setting up a 4' 50G tank viewable from 3 sides, I'm going for the look of one pillar on each end with a lot of shelf rocks sticking out on all sides. Depth is an issue since it's only a 12" wide tank, but I guess that means you get a better up close view of all the critters

For more info about the epoxy, you might follow this thread.
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...9#post11460379 I'm a little concerned about the epoxy myself. I haven't had time to do much research about it yet. |
