I plan on doing like chad said and enclosing the frag tank with a walls and door and venting the whole shebang outside. My system (340 gallons) evaporates ~6 gallons per day @78 degrees. Our summers are relatively mild here with low humidity.

Edward, with the increase in system volume of your new set-up, this may become an issue you didn't encounter with your previous system. Just a heads up.

67 GTO - Nooooo. Yeah I'd enclose it also. I moved my tank out the garage recently. The rusting has stopped and I'm not finding dog hair and various insects in my tank anymore. Even though I keep a clean garage, it's amazing where you end up finding dog hair.

I was planning on running my skimmer in the garage, but then I couldn't paint or sand in my garage without the danger of having my skimmer draw it in with the air. I know there are ways around it, but I didn't want the hassle.

moving more of our tank into the garage as part of our current project, but to date have not really had much issue with rust. Guess we are in a drier area than most. We do plan to enclose the new sumps and other equipment and cover at least both sumps pretty much completely. But we are doing that for heating purposes more so than for humidity. We are less worried about a chiller than we are about a heater at the moment, and covering the sumps will make a huge difference. Right now just throwing a piece of foam insulation over the prop tank each night has saved us alm,ost $100 per month in heating bills this winter (calculated using a Kill A Watt meter over 3 days time both with and without the foam).

I really like your overflow. Is that glass or acrylic?

After coming home from work, the water is crystal clear and the salinity has dropped. It's time for a SSB!

Acrylic. CNC cut. You can tell by the clean lines.

Mike, the overflow is black acrylic (or plastic?), but the entire tank is 3/4" high-fidelity color transmission glass except the back. Or are you asking how thick the overflow is?

Edward, you and I both started our in-wall tanks back in 2003 I believe, look how far you have come, yet I am barely keeping my hobby afloat after the move. Can't wait to see your every trick with this setup.

Is that black glass on the back? Nice. Who did you order your tank from. They did a real nice job on it. How did they seal that acrylic overflow to the glass?

jacmyoung, hey how are you. I remember your setup very well in the past. It was inspirational. It was one of my favs. I will see what I can do with this new setup. My options are endless because of the dimensions.

robster, yes its 3/4 tempered. If you look on the first page, it's vinyl they used to make it black. as for the overflow, I have no idea. You will need to ask Aquarium Environments who built my tank.

swb, but at least you like my tank right?

Aquarium Environments didnt build the tank. they simply sold the tank to Ed. AE is kinda of the middleman. AGE( http://www.acrylicandglassexhibits.com/ )built the actual tank.

Believe it or not back then I had the feeling you would grow impatient with your in-wall tank because of the limited width, and someday would build a new tank as wide as you could handle and then some more

How do they attach the PVC bottom to the glass walls and why PVC? Is it to reduce the weight? Is the black vinyl sheet glued to the back glass?

aggie4321, Right... its all the same owner. I didnt want to confuse them with AGE because they dotn sell to the public, but rather send them to someone who can.

tanya, I thought people were getting tired of the pics. I will post some tonight. The water is very high now and the sand has cleared up just a bit. Tomorrow I get the rest of the plumbing and now I can plumb it to the sump in the garage. Right now its just running on a temporary closed loop plumbing job.

reefer, thank you!

jamyoung, Im not sure how they do it. Its suppose to be top secret. Its company confidential and everyone wants to know the coca cola secret. As for the vinyl, its not glued, but slapped on with a liquid. Its like tint on a car.

yes I do. I have had all of this planned out for years. it hasnt changed. I have the entire setup in Visio and Sketchup. I dont plan to share it just yet. Im waiting to see if I can do it first!! LOL. Its going to be tough and I want it to turn out just right. Its going to be as natural as possible. I will give you a hint.. some areas may not have any light. When designing this tank, the aquascape was the most important part. Then came lighting. Usually its the opposite.

I'm intrigued. Trying to create the effect of having part of the tank an underwater cave, perhaps?

I would think it would be difficult to have some parts of the aquarium receive no light at all.

LOL. ok. I am not giving out anymore info.

Actually, there shouldnt be any issues with areas that do not have any light. it all depends on what animals you want to care for.

Pics, pics, pics!! This is it for now until I start arranging rocks. I have more rocks sitting in the rubbermaids. Water has to clear first. I dont want to add more rocks and didnt see imperfections at the base. Rocks arent at their final place. Dont pay attention to the skimmer. Im still waiting for plumbing from usplastics so I can run it to the garage.

Right now I have 180 lbs. I dont plan to add much more. Only for the extra stuff I plan to do. Remember, it will be an open aquascape.
