Down but not out ...

I spent the best part of 6 months planning and building my new pride and joy 210 reef.

Unfortunately the first glass tank I received had a leak which I found while testing, so it was replaced for another. I patiently waited for the cycle to finish and finally added the critters from my existing 65g tank.

All was going very well - everything looked happy etc.

So I figured my wife and I deserved a vacation - and my neighbors were only too glad to help feed and watch over my tank. However, after only 2 days in St Maarten I got the dreaded call telling me that this 2nd tank had also started leaking!!

So, we cut our vaction short and came back to an empty tank and a ruined hardwood floor My neighbors had no idea about the tank, other than feeding, but luckily they managed to get the fish to a local fish store - Thank you Wet Pets!

This was all about 2 months ago and only now am I finally getting the wood floor repaired!

Once this is done I am planning a come back - I figure I already invested enough money in the lights, skimmer and other equipment that it would not make sense to just sell it all. This time, however, it will NOT be a glass tank. Acrylic it will be.

Just thought I would share this tale with others.

Sorry to hear bro, sounds like a crappy tank builder, don’t let them build your acrylic tank too haha.. Glad to see you come back.

Make sure you use a reputable manufacturer. I've seen alot of people saying oh glass is glass and this and that but when push comes to shove a kraco won't last as long as a kenwood.

I hear you

I just received my 240, beautiful piece of work from Midwest custom aquariums. 72 by 30 wide by 25 deep. Only 1046 delivered to my door, and it's nicely built.

Unfortunately, I'm being deployed tomorrow. My stand and lifereef sump arrive later in the month so I have to wait 6 more months before joining the large tank ranks. I spent the last 6 months planning for the move to my new house and the initiation of my new taqnk, now it has to wait another 6.

Oh well, just moaning.

Ouch! Thats just plain evil. More RC reading in the meantime then. Besides 6 months is long enough to realise that somethng you had planned could be done better I'm sure! I know I will be tweaking my new one slightly, even though my other 210 was only running for about 8 weeks!
