this will be my first time doing this so i want to do it right.
does anyone have any other tips for the best way to do this?
ive heard you put the zoos in zip lock bags in the thermos. and i may add something to keep it cool enroute.
also im guessing when you receive the other persons thermos and remove the contents you simply mail them back the empty thermos right? just being cautious.

It might be best to just talk to the person your going to trade with about what your sending. It will help keep the thread easy to ready. If everyone starts posting picture your going to end up with people wanting to trade with someone else and it could easily become a mess.

No you keep the thermos. You will get a thermos from the person you are getting frags from. I would use double zip lock baggies and/or small bags from the LFS if you are able to get any. Any more questions are greatly encouraged, I don't want any confusion with this heh.

PLEASE - my first time also. Please spell out in detail what each person does. From what I've read, this is what happens:

A list is compiled by SOR of names and addresses. The first person on that list (I assume that would be SOR) gets a thermos, some ziploc bags (or any small bag), puts 3 frags of zoas in 3 doubled up bags, puts them in the thermos, packs it up in a box and sends the box to an address that is predetermined by SOR. That person removes the frags, puts 3 back in, repacks then sends the box with the thermos inside to an address that is given to them by SOR. Right?

Do we put the thermos in a box and send it out, or just the thermos? If it's hot where you are, put some ice in the thermos? Literally in the thermos with the frags? Or pack something around the thermos?

I know I'm asking alot, but I don't want anyone to be dissapointed if I send them dead stuff bc I put ice inside the thermos, or didn't put ice inside the thermos, or packed it wrong, or whatever.

Thanks for your consideration............new at this.....

You go to some store to buy a thermos actually. Buy the cheapest one they have because you wont be seeing it again and that is all you need heh. You will send 3 frags double bagged to the person next to you on the list (I will post the final list on sunday before noon). Then you will contact the person that you are sending frags to, to get there adress and information to send frags to them. Also you should make shure the person above you on the list gets your information to make shure you get your frags 8D. You will have to box it up into a small box, put newspaper or bubble wrap or something of that sort into the box also because you don't want it to rattle around in the box. Then you ship it out priority mail or ground, whichever you prefer, to the person. Then you wait for your frags and post pics of the sweet things you got . Any other questions?

Just for your help, Petsmart(even though they don't carry SW fish) have been very helpful to me in the past for bagging and aerating corals for shipment. Every time I have gone to one, they have given the bags and O2 for free, and I triplebagged when I ship. If they say no, just offer them a couple bucks. It's worth it over ZipLocks. I'm not involved in the swap, just thought I'd add my $.02

Couple Q's . .

Who is running this? Is there going to be any kind of minimum time on the boards to participate.

Any minimum size frag to trade?

when I have seen these work, they don't go round robin, instead set up two people who are relatively near each other to swap.
that way they can get similar items and minimize shipping time/cost.

Also keep the frag sizes small to let the most people play.

Count me in either way.

Just a suggestion. Because of the worries about hot weather, it would make sense to not pick the list randomly, but instead by location. No sense having people from across the country trading when they can trade with someone a state or 2 away.

Also another suggestion. Zoos do very well if they are wrapped well in very wet paper towels and then bagged. From what ive been told excess water in the bags will hurt more then help. This way oxygen is also not required, just a little air. Ive received zoos this way in little 3 in breather bags before without any problems. But before shipping this way, I will definately contact the person who is receiving mine to ensure they are comfortable with this procedure. If not Ill ship them the old fashion way.

I have shipped them priority mail in 2/3 bag of water and everything was fine.

I would prefer to ship in the southeast.

I am the one that is running this. There i no minimum time on the board just what the req is for the trading forums.
Size of frags have been posted in this thread, please read over it...
This will be done by random assortment, I am sorry but that is how I have had this done before, and I would like it to stay this way. Shipping will begin on monday like I said. You will ship to the person next on the list. If you would like to trade with somebody do so seperatly from this thread, so there is less confusion. Thanks.

In the time it took you to type that you could have answered the Q.

Please take me off the list. No need to ship across the country or for dead zoos.

Here is how most round robin swaps turn out:

http://tinyurl.com/rxuky

You ship to guy number three but have no assurance that guy number one will ship to you.

For those looking for instructions on how to thermos trade:

http://tinyurl.com/r87aq

This is the best tut I have seen.

In any event, everybody have fun trading! If anybody in the southeast wants to swap pm me! Priority mail will have it to you in 2 days for only a couple bucks. I prefer someone in Florida. UPS ground is like $4 for next day in state.

OK my understanding is that I will be receiving frags from bmac & sending frags to Icashman. My question is do we all send out our frags tomorrow or do I wait to rec my frags then send frags to Icashman? Also where do I find the e-mail addresses for the people i'm rec.- sending to?

Im pretty sure you just send out frags as soon as you receive contact info. The person you are sending/receiving from had to post in this thread before, so just go to that thread and pm them, or use their email link.
Btw, I have sent pms to both my sender and receiver.

SOR, I sent you a pm Friday asking you to remove me from the list, and for some reason RC was acting funny last nite, not allowing me to post this......I won't have time to do a trade today. Please remove me from the list.

Well, I don't guess anyone is listening.

sedorusc - please don't send me anything; since I haven't gotten any pm's from you, I'm assuming you haven't sent anything yet. Please pm reefinmike and get his info.

reefinmike - If I get anything from sedorusc, I'll send it to you. Please pm me your info just in case.......

Sorry for this; I sent a pm to SOR early Fri morning. I guess he didn't get it.

I'm supposed to send to sedorusc but haven't heard from him/her.

Since Bkndsdl is out and if I don't hear from sedorusc by this week, I'll go ahead and coordinate with reefinmike so he can receive my frags.
