I bought an expensive pump for my system in September 2002. I added calcium (Tech CB, parts A and B) every day to my sump. In April (late at night.......) my pump stopped working. When we opened it up it had a thick uniform coating of calcium everywhere that had locked it up. Moral of the story: don't add calcium straight into the sump. Now I dilute each and add it gradually to the top of the tank.

I had an Iwaki last me 10 years....finally started making too much noise last year and replaced it. If I can find someone to change the bearings, that thing should last another 10 years. I'm using a Sen 900 now.

GRI 510 - 4 years constant use, and more than 25 hours total run-dry on it, and still going strong!

LG 3mdq-sc - going on 2 years constant use, ~3 hours total run-dry, no problems yet. This one is quiet, no cooling fan.

LG 5mdq-sc-x running DIY EV180 equivalent, not long enough to report (~4 months). This thing is LOUD!!!

I have been running a Little Giant 3-MDQX-SC for 11 years on a 125 that has been throtled back to 80% flow. I oil it every few months and have NEVER taken it out of line to clean it. (I guess I am due now). If this pump ever fails, I will buy another one just like it.

Enjoy
John

RIO 2100 : Died after 2 to 2 1/2 years.
Mag 5 : Works, 3 years.
Hagen 802 : Works, 2 years.

I also have two unknown model aqual clear brand powerheads that had been around 14 years. I realized it recently and replaced them.

I'm with you. I have several of the same but unfortunately I'm not presently using them because of space problems. They are good heavy duty externals that will last a number or years.

My Iwaki MD30 RLTs seem to go for about 6 years. I started with a Little Giant long ago that went died after 2. I have 2-4 year old Maxijets and a Mag 9 that show no signs of quitting.
