What a surprise!
Last night I was really upset. Came home from a long day at at work and sat down in front of my tank to relax a bit and gasped. Bummer my my banded shrimp who had been hiding was dead. Looked really icky to. Disappointed about the poor guy, but really worried that maybe my 4 month old tank had some kind of ich in it. But to my surprise three hours later guess who peaked about from behind a rock....yep my banded shrimp. It was really cool never knew they shed themselves.........:-)

Freshly peeled shrimp are great with cocktail sauce. Inverts don't catch ich Doadster so that is not a problem. Hiding is common in inverts that shed as they know the fish are making feast plans until they regain their exoskeleton that protects them.

If I can tack onto the original post, how often do coral banded shrimp or other inverts shed their skin?

I had the same experience 2 nights ago, only I have not seen him out yet, but I'm pretty sure is was only a shedding, I didn't know they molted untill I did some reading up after I found it and thought it was dead

Same situation, but thought my CBS had gotten chewed up in my powerhead. So bummed...later that night, he came popping out of the rockwork for a second, and I was like, what da?! Pretty cool, isn't it?
