Who has a Niger and...

.....what else is in your tank. I just recently added a Niger Trigger to my tank. He is very timid and has not taken interest in any tankmates or limited corals I have. Does anyone have a clam or have had any problems with tankmates?

I have:
Several small hermits and snails
LM blenny
PB tang
Flame Angel
F. Perc
S Lightfoot
Cleaner shrimp
Red Serpeant Star
Pulsing Xenia
Goniopora (flower pot)
Green Hammer
Ricordia
Mushroom
Small zoo colony

I have a niger trigger the fist day I braught him home he ate his way out of the acclimation bag within 2 min of being placed into the tank directly attacted my large lion which happened to be aprox 11inches long the niger being 3inches my lion quickly sucked him up whole then spit him out the niger now leaves him alone but my niger ate my 12 inch engeneer goby well half of him at least.I would never suggest a niger for a reef tank mine will bite me if i have my hands in the tank to long.Im safer arounf my black moray eel lol

despite what unleashed said, niger's are supposed to be reef safe. I cared for a very small one for a few weeks in my tank, which is very docile, and he didn't intentionally bother anything, but I have heard that they can become more bold as they get used to the tank. Every fish is different though.

Nigers are completely hit or miss in reef tanks. There are many triggers which are significantly more reliable in reefs. All of the species have some degree of variability, but none that range as widely as nigers.

I've had one in my tank for the past year, and when the corals were alive (don't ask....) the trigger left them alone. Clams, crabs, other fish...all fine. The only thing he bothers are snails. Occasionally, he will just pick up one of my nassarius, and swim to the top of the tank, and let him go, chase him down, and do it again! Usually 2-3 times, then he gets bored.

I love mine, he is one of my favorite fish to watch.
