Sea Swirl + Maxijet + Hydor Flo

I am looking to really create some nice random flow and thought of this combination. Please give me your pros and cons..
I already have the maxijet attached to the sea swirl and was hopeing the Hydor Flo would really change the flow.
Thanks..

I have a Hydor Flo, you will here a lot of reviews that it doesn't last long but I have had mine for over a year, with over 8+ months of it in use. I like it a lot and even if I had to replace it once a year, I would. I think your idea is great for random flow.

One more thing, the Hydor Flo does restrict the flow somewhat though.

Just do a Maxijet mod or buy one of the pre-made kits that are now available. It will be a lot better especially on a 125.

I thought the Hydor reduced flow too much, and the "randomness" wasn't anything that 2 opposing power heads couldn't accomplish - seemed to be less turbulence with the hydors, despite the swirly little circle it does.

I have 2 Korilia 4's one on each side of the tank. I just put the sea swirl in the middle back glass with a power head attached to it. I was just hopeing to get flow into even more spots in the back corners without adding more powerheads. I guess I can also add a Y to the power head to have it rotate 180' but that will also reduce flow.. Ah just an idea with the Hydor and at 12 dollars its worth a shot. Unless someone has one laying around they'd like to sell me or trade?

I vote for a maxi mod. My hydro-flo died on me after about 6 months.

I just redid all of my plumbing on my 125 and installed 2 1" Sea Swirls on a Mag18.

I was previous running the return lines via the 3/4" bulk heads drilled into the tank, I switched to 1.5" lines going up the back of tank into the 1" swirls. All I can say is WOW, what a difference! I'm running 2x Koralia 2's (one on each side), 1x Koralia 3 (In the center), and the 2 Sea Swirls and am very satisfied with the output.

I never thought about driving a swirl with a powerhead though, that's a good idea as well.

Theyre just a couple of gears... you can take them apart, soak em in vinegar, and put them back together and they should be fine...

The downside is what was previously mentioned, they cut down flow quite noticibly... I would just mod the MJ you have on there and get more flow instead of less more random flow....

I don't have mine any more. I think I included it with the nano when I sold that.

Mine just stopped spinning, and as Doug said - maybe a good cleaning would have fixed that.
