And maybe some crackers?

I just noticed that the list has been edited. A certain unmentionable LFS has had their name changed to *removed*. I have no idea what happened, but whatever happened, it clearly seems to be personal. To go to the effort to remove all references to this store off the site, block being able to post the name on the boards, or even say the name in a PM, is beyond just plain business, it has to be personal. Someone has a major bug (mantis shrimp?) up their behind on this. It's almost pathological.

I'm sure it was not very hard to do. I'm sure the admins just put a keyword in a database and the system automatically flags it.

Owning a site myself, all they have to do is add a certain word (or words) in to their censor list & have it automaticly replaced with, *removed*.

Oh & Craftytonya... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I consider the *removed* store to be the SPS version of Old Town. Like Old Town is with fish, the *removed* store carries unique varieties of corals that you really cannot find anywhere else. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive. As opposed to Old Town, they are not running a store front in an expensive area of town with a large staff, therefore their cost model is lower and it is reflected in their prices, but my buying criteria is not all based on price, otherwise I would do almost everything online.

I do business with both stores for different reasons. Just as I do business with other stores in the area and online. As has been discussed, there is not really one store in Chicago that fires on all cylinders, so many of us tend to dot around.

I will list my experience with the LFS in Chicago metro area:

Coral Reef, Chicago IL- fairly priced fish, corals and dry goods. friendly staff. Ask for Jim (owner), Mitch (owner), Eric (fish room associate). I have bought stuff that was compatible with my fish and they have taken it back. they have sold stuff for my on consignment. Very flexible people. I most frequently visit this LFS.

Living Sea Aquarium, Park Ridge IL - Large and good selection of fish and corals. Owners and staff are bit of a snob. Products are ridicoulously expensive.

Ocean Design, Chicago IL - I have never bought anything there, however, I was impressed to see that they quarintine all the new fish in a seperate system for two weeks. The fish were very healthy looking. The price were above average but not like living sea. The staff was friendly as well.

Aquatica, Tinley Park IL - Aquatica has the best fish and the best price. They are one of the few that carry fish for large aquarium at a reasonable price. They specialize in large fish, sharks ( 3000 gallon show) and four big tanks of corals. I drive 40 miles to only buy fish from them. Ask for Rob (owner).

Old Orchard - Unfriendly staff, unfriendly owner & outrageous prices.

I visited DLC for my first time last week to pick up a gift certificate for my step-dad. Awesome place, and great people... corals like I've never seen anywhere else! I even picked up my free frag for the month of December... definitely worth the trip! I will definitely be back once I get my debt paid down from the holiday!

I too just made my first visit to *removed* and picked up three nice pieces, including my free frag of couse... Sorry to one of *removed* owners, I bought her favorite coral in the tank.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the great list! I've found a few new places I want to check out. I went to DLC web site and saw no mention of the "free frag of the month", what the story with that?

I wondered about that too but that might be a drawing they do at another site they support that also cannot be mentioned here. I just won a nice pair of true percs from the Dec drawing at that site.

Why we dont have Coral Reef up there??? I have been shopping there for couple years now and they have nothing but best prices in there Reef room. Btw, Is there a nice LFS in Schaumburg/ Hoffman Estate area ??
Advanced Aquatics is in Schaumburg off Roselle Road. Knowledgable and friendly, good prices and in stock items.

The owner of Sea Schor is an *******! All that stood out to me at Sho Tank was an Emperor Angel that had the worst case of HLLE I have ever seen.
