I am loving the new tank, I think that the slanting front panel will probably catch on here and in no time it will porbably be the new hip thing to do.

But only time will tell we will have to wait and see.

Hi Marc. What brand of sand did you use in there?

I got it from a group buy that our club organized with Treeman out of Florida. I don't know where he got it, but I'd assume some beachfront. It comes in plastic bags with a tie at the top, nothing official nor labeled.

After months of local research for a cheap alternative to Caribsea, the only thing I could find was way too brown or too white (Quartz in the HD concrete dept). I finally got back to aragamax select and used the price match option at my local Big Al's. 35$ for 30lbs is decent I think, compared to 55$

Day 23

Here are some new pictures. You'll see how the diatoms on the sand are still making it rather ugly, but it has only been a few weeks. I really can't wait for it to look nice again, and its been really hard to stay out of the tank and not mess with it.

I'll have to add some kind of flow after all, though I don't know what I'll use quite yet.

A goby I brought home from the gulf coast. I have a few more and have been thinking about adding them to keep the sand stirred up. They don't seem to fight with each other.

Some acan polyps

This orange ricordia was up on the rock, and then moved down to the sand almost overnight. I don't know how. I started to think maybe it is on a snail shell with a living creature inside, but since it landed here, it hasn't moved.

Favia

Rose anemone with clowns.

Ricordia

Zoas and a Firefish

Mini carpet anemones. I have three now.

Rock anemone from the gulf.

I tested the water last night in my tank to see what the water parameters were. Of course, testing at 2am isn't what I normally do, so I can't really compare some numbers against others from the past.

What I did notice was that Calcium and Alkalinity were down slightly, which is still well within range. My CO2 tank is almost empty, which really shouldn't have occured for another 4 months at least. I must have had a small leak somewhere after all.

Magnesium was quite low, so I added more to the water and will test again tomorrow to see what level it is at. It was 1250ppm and I want it around 1300 or higher.

Phosphates were up. Imagine that. But ammonia was 0.

it actually might be too much though...

I've thought about it, or the smallest Korallia perhaps. What I want is flow without seeing a pump nor a cord.

Is that too much to ask?

the modded Tunze nano will be too much flow for that tank I think. Mine is really much more powerful than as it comes out of the box. I have had ricordia move also, so I guess they are at least semi-motile.

Thanks for the start!

Now, do you have a link to how to mod it? Or maybe you want to PM me instructions?

Very nice. Was thinking of having someone make me a similar tank as a long and shallow lagoon/clam tank.

Clamsdirect sold a very similar tank a couple of years back and supposedly has plans to release them again soon.

YVW! Mine was done by Don Nguyen (dhnguyen) and is a little different in the way it is carved out, and also includes a fishing line added to get it to start in the right direction every time. I have to say that this mod seriously improves the Tunze Nano flow to the point that I think it might be worth buying one. Stock out-of-the-box, I think they are one of the worst PHs I have ever dealt with.

I got them from a member of the Rochester club in New York. Gary would know what they are called.
