...I mean, it's nothing. Nothing at all. In fact, it's highly poisonous and you should dispose of it by sending it to me immediately!

Yeah, you don't want that. It will wreck your tank, grow warts on your nose, and steal your money. Send it to me, I have a special tank for it

it's an acan, and once it comes out a little more, it should be a very nice one.

Acanthastrea echinata.
There are a bunch (relatively speaking) going around in color morphs similar
to that one.
I've got one too... slightly different color I believe. Nice score.

Seeing mine (remarkable similar to the image rockdr's provided) in person, I think it's echinata... but if not, brahm... what's your alternative guess?

I don't think it is an echinata Here is what it says about Echinata:

Corallites are cerioid or subplocoid, circular and have thick walls. Septa have long pointed teeth. Colonies have thick fleshy tissue over the skeleton which usually forms concentric folds.

slave- I paid $125- it measures about 4-5inches on each side of a triangularish shaped rock. I hope I did not get taken. I love the colors anyway...
I am just really curious as to what this is and if anyone else cares to guess---
Brahm- are there any other clues I could give as to what this is?

It is my first Acan anyway... if that is what it is. IMO definately not a Blatso and does not look like any brains I have or have seen either. He has had it for about 6 years in his tank at home he said.

Nice piece Rockdr. Though, the fact that it has been in captivity for 6 years and is only 30 polyps disturbs me. My echinata grows faster than that. And I've had lords grow to 30 polyps in less than 6 months.

Hey Reefnroll,
Haven't seen you around in a while.

Hey Randy -

I'm around... usually don't post at all, just hang out.
Acanthastrea can get me to talk though! Yours (mine) has 3 more polyps...
eating me out of house and home!

JenDub -
I agree... subechinata is a possibility also.

Randy
I didnt ask him if he feeds or what I know the polyps were definately more fluffy this am after I fed last night. He also had thought it was a blasto all this time. It looks very healthy and I will be excited to see it as it gets its color up. My guy said it was much more orange when he was keeping it in is tank.

You're right... not subehinata. I just took another look and realized I was thinking about hemprichii... not subechniata. However, if we're talking about the comparison of photos rather than skeletons, all decent guesses (on yours, mine and this one) are relatively equal.
