Flatworm update: Wose than ever
Treatment Used: Spotted Mandarin
Result: Fat and Happy - not due to flatworms...
Treatment Used: 2 6 Line Wrasse
Result: Fat and Happy - not due to flatworms...
Treatment Used: Flatworm 2 Eating Nudibranch
Result: One died same day of delivery, other loves to eat them - but he disappeared....

Conclusion: Flatworms Suck

Next Step: 125 gallon reef tear down, and flat worm exit to be used.

WISH ME LUCK....

Gobey

I was told there there a better wrasse for the job, does anyone know a better wrasse species for flatworm destruction before I use the chemicals???

Halichoeres Genus ring any bells? Bad idea for the long run?

Looks like you've tried everything and still no luck. What a bummer Wish I knew the name of the wrasse but at this point, do you think you could add another wrasse to the tank and not have a lot of fighting?

Good luck Rich. I had my bout with them a few years ago and I feel your pain.

You dont have to tear down the tank to kill the red flatworms with flatworm exit. I used a quadrouple dose on my fully stocked 180 with just a little harm to my serpent star, but he survived. I wouldnt recommend doing a quadrouple dose however, double should be enough.

Remember though, flatworm exit will only kill the red flatworms, not the brown... I found that out after doing the quad dose and watching them completely ignore it. So far the sixline hasnt done the trick either. Im testing a red scooter in my nano to see if he goes for it. They seem to have tapered off there expansion however and look to be stabalizing in population. Still to many for me to let it go though. They are so damn ugly.

I appreciate the attention and information. I have brown flatworms with a tiny red spot at one end....so the flatworm exit won't harm these at all?

get a power head and blow em off the rocks then suck em up with a siphon hose... (I lift my curse .. may ten gazillion flatworms infest your tank)

Flat worms are much smaller than 3/4 ". I can't tell what it is from the picture.

I initially decided to leave them alone. I then had tens of thousands 1 -3 mm red flatworms. So I used the flat worm exit yesterday. I siphoned some out before hand and again siphoned them out as the fell off the tank wall and onto the bottom during the treatment. I doubled the dose yesterday day then ran 4.5 gallons of carbon on my 125 after they stopped moving. This AM I had about 50 on the tank walls. 1/500 of what I had yesterday but I was dissapointed so I did it again. Today I added 300 gal equivalent to my 125 and it didn't touch them. Even after 6 hours they didn't budge. So now it looks like I'm stuck with a tank of resistant worms. Has anyone had a similar problem. I already had a sixline and now i'm looking for either a mandrin, a nudibranch or both. I remeber playing with those things in highschool biology and thinking that they were prettty cool. I never thought that they would acutally cause such aggravation. By the way, even with thousands of worms lying dead on the tank bottom that couldn't be reached, all of my corals and fish did fine. They never seemed bothered.

I haven't tried flatworm exit yet, I trying all natural preditors first. I've heard stories about some not being effected by that product.

I must give you my own update. As I stated above, my 2nd dose was 1.25 strength. I left the dose in their. Meaning I left it in, no water changes, no carbon, ect. It was about a week before I did a WC. Any way, I have not seen any FW for a while now. I always dip my corals in iodine brfore giving them out as a precautionary though.

I disagree with my experience. I had some brown and alot of green with a red dot. Could they be the same at different stages? I don't know.
But, so far, none to be found. Knock on my wood cabinet.

I'm going to use the flatworm exit this weekend. I'll try the 1.25 dose. I will have carbon ready along with a good size water change ready. I will try to get rid of as many worms prior to treatment and we'll se what happens. It might be one bad day or one great day...

Do the 1.5 dose. Add 1 and wait alittle and see before the .5. Thats what I would do, but it is your tank.
