Can I keep lobster from the grocery store?

I dont see why not. It will be temporary, the kids want one. I figure, I will just eat him when I get some LR. It will also keep the tank spiced, I have a cycled tank with no life in it. any problems with this? Someone else will just eat him if I dont. And what should I feed him?

Need Cold water close to 70 degrees I think. Couldn't tell you what to feed them.

Too funny. I thought about using a lobster to cycle my tank. Tank cycles, then lobster dinner. I checked with my local fish monger - his tank is at 58 degrees.

This is sick guys. Time to ask yourself why you're in this hobby in the first place? Enjoyment of your kids? Growing things you can eat?...

They need 55*F or even lower. Some of those lobster tanks run at 45, which is painfully cold.

OK, lobster is out, I am not buying a chiller! Just thought it would be neat for a little while. I had no idea they need cold water. Thanks for the advice, no harm, no foul.

I don't think I've ever seen a live spiny lobster for sale. At least not here in the Mid Atlantic. Good question though. I have kept blue clawed crabs in a tank waiting for them to go soft (fish bait). They make a terrible mess of the water and need a lot of filtration. I imagine a lobster would do the same.
