Love the pipefish. And all your pictures are beautiful.
Is the pipefish living off of the redbugs or is he eating other prepared foods.

RGibson: It's hard to say exactly with the pump being throttled back just slightly. I would estimate somewhere around 2500 to 3000 GPH.
z28cam: I have four in the tank right now and they were only added a few of days ago. They are constantly pecking at the corals and rocks but couldn't tell for sure if they ate during feed time or not. They pretty much continued with their normal feeding activities. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Joseph |

Those are some of the best pictures I have seen. Can I ask, what are some of your tricks for getting those shots. I have a Nikon D70 with a macro lens and my friend has the Canon 10D with macro and we just can't get the results that you have achieved. I know you have stated before that you shut the pumps down but what are some of the other factors that help you get the best possible shots. Thanks Rich |

Rich: Thank you very much. I am by no means an accomplished photographer and continue to learn regularly. I do take a lot of shots to find that single good one. I also sometimes use bracketing to find the best lighting settings. Check your OM if not familiar with this feature. The use of this crutch in itself shows that I am no photographer and don't have the ability to look at a potential shot and throw my camera into full manual with a good understanding of what settings will achieve a certain desired look. Again, I'm still in the learning process. So, aside from the already mentioned shutting down of the pumps, I'd say use a good tripod and get the remote shutter accessory so as to not move the camera during the shoot. Always clean your glass prior to shooting and always shoot with the lens perpendicular to the glass. I also shoot in the highest resolution just below RAW as I often crop the photos. Oh... and know your way around Photoshop.
So for me, I'd say it's 50% camera/lens, 40% perseverance/patience/luck and 10% photographic ability. Joseph |

Weatherson is being modest. I work with proffessional photographers all the time and shooting a bracket is the way they ALL do it. They might have a pretty good idea of what is needed to begin with, but the bracket lets you pick the best shot. When I use photography for advertising I always have a lots of shots to choose from and then the selected shot is available in a bracket of 3 settings. This way you increase your odds conciderably. Shooting lots of shots to get that perfect shot is a biggie. Here are a few of my new shots.
Having a macro setting is also VERY nice. |

Ralph: I use the rubber socket found at Home Depot. Here's a shot showing one and the aluminum bracket I made to hold it in place.
George: Thank you. Kregg: Very nice photos. Thanks for sharing. Joseph |

maxpower2112: Thank you for the kind words.
Greg: Congrats on the new tank but apparently you didn't read the fine print. It clearly states that I can not be held accountable for any hobby related obsessions induced by this thread. Here's a few new photos. The first being my Coral Beauty which isn't the best but this fish is extremely difficult to get a good, accurate photo of due top it's extreme colors. Joseph |

Greg: Don't mind at all. Use them for personal use all you like.
So... I'm attempting to learn this new Canon camera and have been shooting all kinds of reef tank shots. As long as no one becomes bored with or just can't take any more, I'll post a few more. Let me mention here that the damsels are really that blue. It almost hurts your eyes to see them in person and when under super-actinic lighting only, truly glow so much that there's literally an area around them that glows blue. Anyway, here's some new shots... |

Either that is one heck of a camera, or you have some awesome skill at photography. Capturing fish is so tough for me, and all of yours look like they were stationary. Very nicely done. Did you use a flash, and if so, was it a remote one or did you point it upward perhaps?
