This is of the carbon filter I built for the air inlets of my dual-Beckett skimmer. Now... to catch up a bit.

Bamm Bamm: Let me know how it works out for you on your skimmer.

douglass: I could do a series of photos but stitching several together to make a panoramic type is now out of the question. There's simply not enough space in the room for this anymore.

Lunchbucket: Thanks and I use Black Diamond carbon and even in this filter as well as in the skimmer's air outlet filter. The time frame of which this carbon needs replacing is much longer than the tank saltwater carbon filter so cost of use is not so bad.

qwuintus: Keep in mind that this was taken some time ago and prior to the addition of the fourth 25-watt blue party light. With this, it's much more evenly lit.

I can't believe I read the whole thing.... all I can say is Ouch, my head hurts. This is by far the most and probably best information I have read about setting up and maintaing a tank. Someday after I gain enough experience with my small reef tank, I will tackle an inwall tank project. And this will be the guidebook to follow.

Probably the most amazing thing about reading this thread, is that I can't come up with any questions to ask that you haven't already answered. Maybe the only question to ask is: What side of that tank do you spend the most time on, the front or the back?

qwuintus: I think the blue party lights look good also. The only real downside to them is that they tend to turn greenish in color. But at the price they are, it's nothing to replace them prior to burn-out.

Nope, it's not Starfire and I'm not missing that either. The tanks I've seen with it really didn't make a big enough visual effect to my eyes to warrant the additional cost. Of course, I am speaking of Oceanic costs which tend to be exaggerated some. Throw in Starfire and they get exaggerated severely.

Gujustud: That's a very good eye you have there. Yes, I replaced the stainless steel wing nuts with some more comfortable on the fingers plastic units from US Plastics.

So... I've been considering altering my closed loops for some time and finally acquired of a couple Penductors from KTH Sales. These are essentially venturis which increase flow when used with a fairly strong pressure rated pump. You can check out the more detailed info on their site. In the past, the only versions of these devises were rather long and unsightly. Fortunately, they've redesigned them and have reduced their length to only three inches and now produce them in the color of black.

I decided to do some experimenting to help justify in my mind that this was a worth while change. I did so on my left closed loop which includes a Iwaki 55 pump. What I did was to shoot three photos, each with air injected into the line to help visualize the flow. First, I took a shot with the previous setup of the one inch line that was split to two and then housed two 3/4" locline nozzles on each. Here's the shot of this setup and the flow within the tank caused by them.



Next is a shot of the single one inch line with a simple one inch elbow as the outlet.



Last of all, here's a shot with the Penductor in place at the end of the single one inch line. The increase in flow was nothing short of amazing with it hitting the opposite wall at eight feet away.

Joseph i have two penductors one at each end of the tankwith a Iwaki MD55 pump and thay are amazing and cost only $25.00 each.Andy at myreefcreations all so has the penductors.
