Thought I'd share pretty good I think anyways.
The Spoiled Under 30 Crowd
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!! When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways .. yadda, yadda, yadda And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it! 1. When I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! 2. There was no email! ! We had to actually write somebody a letter ... with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! 3. There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! 4. We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! Can u say emergency break-thru's..until the operators caught on! 5. And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, < BR>your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister! 6. We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like ' Space Invaders' and 'asteroids' and the graphics were horrible! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! . Just like LIFE! 7. W hen you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed! 8. Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no onsc reen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! And there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons! 9. And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove or go build a fire ... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing or a pan with HOT oil and Real popcorn kernels and shake it all over the stove forever like an idiot. 10. When we were on the phone with our f r iends and our parents walked-in, we were stuck to the wall with a cord, a 7 foot cord that ran to the phone - not the phone base, the actual phone ne. We barely had enough length to sit on the floor and still be able to twirl the phone cord in our fingers. If you suddenly had to go to the bathroom - guess what we had to do.....hang up and ta lk to them later. That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled . You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980! Regards, The over 30 Crowd

lol..... atari rules you forgot to mention pong..... im 22 and i still remember waiting listening to power96 tryin to record the good stuff on them crappy cassettes, and it would never come out good and you would always miss the first few seconds.

Things my kids will never know:
"Can you spare a dime for a call" 3 channels on TV My dad used to say "I am not going to pay for TV" Sitting on the couch "Can you change the channel for me while you pass the TV" "I can get some better reception...all I need is some tin foil...a hanger...a bobby pin. UHF/VHF Antibacterial what? Son you want to get to the mall...hitchhike just like I did when I was your age. Proof reading a paper...Encyclopedia...Typo....White out....correction tape... When I started driving gas was $.99/gallon. Being home right at 8:00 because your favorite show is starting. PVR - It changed the world. Going to a movie and then knowing you will never see it again...no DVD...no VHS. "Be kind Please Rewind" Should I go on.... |

Whats next:
Satellite Radio (OK thats my business) Internet everywhere and on everything wired everywhere and fast enough to do video calls and movies. Cable TV and Sat TV will go away and it will be replaced by a form of internet TV. Forget hundreds of channels...think thousands. Imagine everything right there when you want it...every TV show from all time...every movie...every song. Forget a home/ office/ cell number. How about a phone number that follows you around where ever you are...even a friends house. Cars that work off of used oil at mcdonalds. I will take a Mcnugget, a large coke and 15 gallons of McGas. My grand kids will never know: Damm "Sorry I missed your call my battery died". No I cant open that file...its a .AAA and I can only open .EEE Going to the store to rent/buy...a movie...CD...game.... |

Sounds like paradise compared to the "over 40 crowd".....
1. 2 Channels of TV, my favorite shows "I dream of Jeannie", " Bewitched", "Bonanza" "Guns Smoke" and "Big Valley", in Black & White", of course. 2. NO Video Games, none, nada, silch 3. NO Cell phones and the corded house phone was a giant black rotary dial. 4. I got my first computer when I was 25, it had a whooping 10 Meg Hardrive, an Amber Screen and DOS 2.1! 5. Our Movie Theater had wooden seats. Butt was numb after 2.5 hours of "Ben Hur".... 6. Remote Controls where none existant 7. Our Christmas Tree had REAL candles. 8. My roller skates had 4 wheels and rubber bands holding to my shoes. But you know what? There where no sickos around either, no child molesters, no Identity Thiefs, no Internet Scam Artists and Hackers, no Suicide Bombers, no Osama. And no Xtasy, ruffies, crack, meth, etc., and we still had a great time!!! I'm kinda glad I grew up in the good ole days.

33rpm's LPs, 45's, 8 tracks, then came the fancy cassettes. I remember getting our first remote control for the TV, (we were the first on our street) it had a 15 foot cord that reached our couch.
My dad was a real electronic gadget guy, he bought an LCD portable battery operated adding machine, nothing fancy, just addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for around $200, and I was not allowed within 20 feet of the thing. The first portable phone I was able to use at work, Serpico style, was so large it was housed in a briefcase. That was cutting edge technology! When the Motorola Brick came out we thought we were the Jetsons.

My father's phone was a party line. That is to say that there was 1 Phone for the entire building. People would pick up the phone and listen to the conversation.
My grandfathers phone number till the day he passed was HU-25826. My mother and law had an out house. She lived in up state new york. It was cold. They used the sears and roebuck catalog as TP. They also took bathes in the kitchen. That saying dont through out the baby with the bath water...Dad bathed first. Then the boys. Then Mom, then the girls. Then the baby. The babes water was black and it was easy to loose them in that dirty water. |

When I started driving gas was 25 cents a gallon
 My first new car was a BMW, it cost $3000 and that was very expensive compared to domestic cars. One day my friend came over to show me his new 8 track tape player. We drove around and in the middle of my favorite song it faded out then... clunk... it changed tracks and faded back in. bleah! My first computer was a Timex. You hooked it up to your TV and saved stuff onto a portable cassette recorder. I gave up after about a week. Remember the LED watches (Texas Instruments) where you had to push the button and the red numbers would flash for about 2 seconds?

Oh yeah...how about when MTV played music.
I thought I was livin' large when I had a removable, slide under the dash Sanyo 8 track tape player in my Opal Manta (Dad, what the heck is an Opal Manta?) I was the remote control for my dad. "Bobby, get up and put on channel 4, and fix the vertical hold while you are up".

I shudder when I remember the days before teh interwebs. The fact that I can place an order online on amazon, charge it to this plastic card with numbers on it, have it at my front door tomorrow morning, and pay for it at the end of the month is simply mind blowing when you sit and think about it....

In order to heat our 4 bedroom appartment in the winter, we had to go down 3 flights of stairs to the basement and fill a bucket with coal which went into the big oven in the middle of the appartment.....
Air Condition is still non existent in any house where I come from.....

tube television sets that took 10 minutes to warm up, dimmed the house when you turned them on, heated the house in the winter and actually had repairmen that came to your house to fix them
