How to keep from creating sandstorm?
I will be setting up a new tank next Saturday. I am going to be useing Aragamax sand.
What is the best way prevent a sandstorm when I start adding water? |

you shouldn't be adding any sand until the water and rock are in.
Better yet, go BB and don't add sand!

I think a bare bottom would look un-natural.
Covering the bottom with a trash bag is a great idea! Thanks! |

I used a trashbag when I set up mine, it worked pretty well.

I like to add the sand through a PVC tube once the water is in. However, if there is no livestock I'm not sure why it matters if there is a sandstorm.

it's very important to place rock in the aquarium BEFORE sand.
The order to do this is rock (ensure it's stable), water and lastly sand. Obviously you can do this in any order you wish, but there are ways and then there are better ways

I am taking down a 30 gallon with 3 fish in it and setting up a 54 corner tank in its place. I'm guessing I need to work fairly quickly so the fish are not in a container (bucket) too long.
I only have about 50 lbs of rock in the 30 that I will be moving to the 54. I am going to seed the new sand with the existing sand in the 30 and hopefully use all of the water. I'm going to start mixing a extra 20+ gallons of water this week. If I do get a sand storm going do you think the fish will be ok to put back in? (Sorry, no offense on the bare-bottom comment) |
