Tests are in.. Phosphates .14 with Hanna Meter

Well I just posted a thread that I wasn't happy with my coral coloration of my SPS.

I went to my LFS which has a Hanna Meter. The results are in.

.14 ppm PO4

If I remember correctly optimal PO4 is .03ppm correct?

Maybe this is why I am not happy with my coral coloration? I also tested my Nitrates 4ppm Lamotte.

So what do you guys think?

Thanks,
Chris

I think I need to get a Hanna meter

Are you running any GFO or having any algae issues?

Well I've got a big bucket-O-Phosban and I am converting a spare RO cannister as a Phosban reactor.

Man I hope this makes a difference. I guess I will see. Probably will not be till next weekend till I get it online though.

Happy New Year!
Chris

I just put some GFO in a bag in my filter sock. I know thats not really the way to do it though. I am going to get a reactor online soon.

I haven't really had any algae issues at all. But i will say that I think it could have been masked by my voracious Powder Brown Tang. He's a eating machine!

Did you test with any over the counter kits? Mine (Salifert and API) read zero, but I have a few tufts of hair algae and my color is not that great. I am going to start with ROWAphos today.

Seems sort of common to have zero PO4 reads with anything besides that HAnna.

Almost all test kits only measure inorganic, and not organic phosphates. I have read the Hatch is a good one. I just purchased a Hanna meter myself. Unfortunately it's on backorder. Must be a popular item these days.

Hach, dd merk, & color meter all measure phosphates low enough. phosphates should be 0.03 or lower. prefer <0.024.

GFO in a filter bag and put it in the sump should work out fine.
