Question Butterfly fish injury

Ok my butterfly fish is healing nicely from the injuries from the Yellow Tang. I gave the yellow tang to a friend. But now I see his tip of his nose is all bloody. Is this from grazing on the LR? Its really bad and has not seem to gotten any better in the last two days. I put stress caot in to help with the cuts from the YT. But whats up with his nose??

Pictures of the wounded fish.....

any comments wold be great!!! I just want to help this fish. It looks to me as if some of the flesh is coming out of the would. Its not just a cut or scrape... it is raised and almost looks like a buch of blood clots. My concern is hat it has now been three days scince this has appeared with no sighn of it improving.

im not sure what anyone else would recomend but i would look into taking him out putting in a hospital tank and treating with an antibiotic. could be a small injury that got infected. someone else can chime in but thats what im thinking.

Like Keith says, set up a hospital tank. Antibiotic of choice would be either one of the nitrofuran blends or SW Maracny 2. If you can't find the SW Maracny 2, than the FW version at double the dose is the equivilent.

ok right now my extra tank i used is not available(broken) the seal was ripped and is being repaired. I know dosing the tank is not the greatest thing to do but if it is the only choice should I do it?.....will it harm the inverts? Can i find these meds at any LFS?

It doesn't need to be big for a QT. Even a cheap 10 gallon would be sufficient, or even a rubbermaid storage bin. The meds should be available at any LFS. The Maracyn 2 is from Mardell, and Nitufuran is available under several brand names and not always under the name nitrofuran...so look at the ingredients

tough injury, best of luck....i would think to have something in there as a hiding place for him....just to make him feel a little more comfortable.

good luck

Kevin makes a good point Be sure and have something to provide him cover. Items made out of inert materials are best, ie artificial resin decorations and even el' cheapo large PVC pipe fittings work well.
