atb conical skimmer on elos 55g

never wanting to be left behind, figured id give the atb skimmer a test drive. first impressions? very well made. very easy to install. it started to skim a fat head of foam immediately...in the photo the skimmer has only been running for 10 minutes. it is silent. few micro bubbles. this model is the "small" (renamed, used to be nano), it is the smallest skimmer atb makes.

Thanks Victor for setting me up. I really do appreciate the excellent customer service.

thanks hahn.

you provided most of the inspiration...

so far ive found the atb to be very reliable. just set it and forget it. this mornings foam head is nice and dark, im slowly adjusting the head upward as to make coffee.

wondering if there is an ideal spot for the water level inside and outside the skimmer. currently it sits in 7 inches of water, and the water inside the skimmer is 1 inch higher.

Jason it looks like it is leaking from the neck? Is your O-ring seated correctly? Are you running this with a needlewheel or meshwheel?

I think the water level is too high inside of the skimmer?.. Thus leaking?.

yep too high. the level is at the neck. i backed it off. the water level inside the skimmer is now 2-3 inches lower. its a needlewheel.

making some nice dark foam tonight.

earlier, i was getting my boys ready for bed. after they were all tucked in i went into my office to chill. my son threw his sweatshirt into the tank. i didnt know what i was looking at!! kids.

He was probably looking at dads new toy. don't worry after a few days you'll be a pro at adjusting it.

Mine should be here sometime next week, and judging by your impressions I can't wait.

Any photos showing what your skimmer is collecting yet?
