TEK T5 fixture loudness

I am considering a TEK T5 fixture for my 90. The info page on these fixtures says "virtually no noise". I have heard this one before on pumps. For those of you that have one, are they noise free?

Which model are you running on your 90? Are you happy with it?

I've got a 36" 6 bulb fixture and mine also runs silently. No weird noises. Overall satisfied but will admit, w/o a fan of some sort the fixture DOES get very warm to the touch, near hot, but never scalding.

Iam running a 4x54 bulb fixture it has been okay for a mixed reef although the higher light sps grow real slow. I have shifted over to a few more sps so when i have the funds iam going to get a 6 bulb fixture. Not sure if i will get a tek im kinda leaning towards getting one with fan as the bulbs have better performance. I would say if you plan to keep some sps i would get the 6 bulb unit.

Heat output from TEK T5 ?

Does your TEK T5 fixture heat up your tank since it doesn't have a built in fan, or do you have to put an external fan to keep your tank cool? I really want to keep a totally clean tank and would prefer a built in fan, versus an external...but if the TEK T5 light doesn't heat up the display, then great!

Who has the best prices on the TEK?

Thanks, Pam

The TEK fixtures are engineered to use passive cooling (no fans). Thus the unit itself is unnoticeable next to other aquarium noises. If you were in a dead silent room you would have a hard time hearing a slight hum. Heat build up will depend on ambient room temp. Chances are you will need some sort of cooling but it doesn’t have to be a big ugly fan. You can actually mount two 20mm CPU fans to the fixtures and you would think it was part of the original package.

lvreefer - Have you actually seen a post where someone has done this? I am looking to add some cooling to my 6 x 36 Tek fixture.

I'd like to see the TEK light fixture with the 20mm fans attached too. Anyone have a picture they'd like to post ?
