Water flow - poweheads advise

Hi there
I have a 55g tank and I want to add some water movement , beacasuse I want to add some sps this year. I have 2 jetstream 900 poiting eachother controled with a wavemaster pro from redsea.

I want to know what do you think about Hydro Koralias, Ministream Tunze and Seio superflow. I want to buy 2.

take in consideration than I will plug them to the wavemaker.

I want to know if they dont make any noise when they start.

Thanks a lot.

I like Koralias alot but would not put them on a wavemaker.

If on a wavemaker and wanna keep price down the Seios are good

Overall you cant beat the Tunze unless you got a Vortech

Do you have budget? I'm using 2 Vortech's in my 56G and they're amazing. One was fine, but I wanted a second after the wireless drvers came out to run in sync/anti-sync mode and really get some wave making action.

You can mod the MJ900s you have.

I've tried two different brands of MJ mods that are for sale at Marine Depot and elsewhere. The first one failed after a week or two but the "Algae Free" has been running just fine for about a month now. I'm going to order another one.

In a 55g tank two of the Algae Free on a MJ600 or 900 would be plenty.

MJ's on a wavemaker are great, No issues. But i wouldnt put MJmods on a wavemaker. They will get destroyed pretty quick and they can get noisy when starting up.

if you have a wavemaker that doesnt turn the PH's all the way off and back on that should be fine

I've used the Algae Free mod on a Redsea wavemaker. It's no problem. It doesn't seem to start backwards very often and it rights itself immediately.

What I've done for the last few weeks in my 150g tank is use a MJ600 with the mod on a timer that can go on/off each 15 minutes (it has those little gray tabs), and then leaving a pair of MJ1200's on the wavemaker without the mod. This provides very good water movement in my tank. If I didn't already have the Wavemeaker I'd just get more timers and use them with the MJ and Algae Free mod.

On a real reef, most of the corals we keep see currents flowing in one direction for hours at a time, more than they see turbulence back and forth, aka "surge". On the reef the corals also see eddies and things like that but we can also do that with current streamers like the Algae Free mod on a MJ.

The Algae Free one that I have makes either no sound or one click if it starts backwards and needs to stop and go the other way. You don't really hear it from the front of the tank.
