Kip I hate to see this, what is your plan now? break down the tank and start over with new LR? It almost looks like that boring algae in the first pic of the PM that starts at the base and kills off the colony as it climbs...regardless, I'll have frags for you once you get over this horrible experience, hang in there!

i am filling in with some easier to keep lps/softies so the tank doesnt look so bare

green tissue boring algae... yeah.. i dealt with that years ago, what is on the base of that monster is different... the tissue recedes white, then regular algae moves in

i am just gonna keep riding it out.... if i get to an acro-less point... i will stay that way a few months... then try some new frags

thanks for the offer

You KNOW I feel your pain there, buddy. Here's a shot of my PM colony not long before it crashed along with every other acro I had. Was probably about 8" tall.

Bummer man, I think keeping SPS is sure a challenge and a heartbreaking venture.
I remember someones quote on RC went something like "There are the tanks that have crashed and others that will" anotherwords its going to happen to everyone at some point I suppose.
Good luck with everything.

Man those pictures bring back such bad memories for me too! It seems our tanks took similar paths this year. I got lucky though and all TN events have all but stopped in my tank. Still the occasional one here and there, but for the most part, I think I'm through with it.

My turaki suffered the same fate as yours, I did save a few pieces however. It's more green now, but growing well.

Mind if I comiserate a bit? I may have posted these to your original thread, forgive me if I did.

I just can't get over how similar the symptoms are.

Have you tested your tank for sulfate by any chance?

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Have you narrowed this down to any particular cause/causes?

Sorry to read about your problems Kip. I had similar problems right before I broke down my tank. A big bucket of dead acros too.

havent test SO4 ... in fact, i dont think i've ever seen a kit (not that i've looked)

havent figured out a cause... i did find some stray voltage the other week and corrected that, but i'd tested for voltage several times before with no reading... my problems started loooong before the voltage leak.

I have no way to prove it, but I still feel I imported some kinda pathogen/illness/whatever in on an order of corals. Problem is.. i ordered from several vendors at the same time so I cant narrow that down. And, the corals exhibit the same symptoms no matter what system I put them in (i had 4 different systems running b/w home and the office at one time trying to figure this out). That's why when folks mention water quality, flow, sand beds, OTS, etc, etc... i kinda shrug it off because the same thing couldnt be happening in all 4 systems.

Hey Joe... riddle me this... how do you ever feel at ease setting up a new tank and growing acros again when you have these bad memories and know that you can get a sick coral in that would wipe out your tank again? ... i know, i know... that's part of the game of success in this hobby... but it is tough to swallow sometimes.

JustJoe (atlantis) sent me a PM thinking he saw AEFW eggs... while I have dealt with these before when QTing corals.. i have seen no signs of them during my problems of late. When he had me zoom in on an area, I was almost happy that i thought i'd found AEFWs... because then I would at least know what I was dealing with. But it didnt turn out to be eggs... just brown tissue at the recession line.

And again... i am having no problems with monti, pocci, seria, stylos, euphs, blastos, cat jards, caulastrea, etc, etc.

Soon enough i will be rid of this problem one way or another because I am soon to run out of acros. At that point, I will stay acro-less a few months and then try some frags... if they get sick... I will give up on acros for good. (or at least wait until we move and I can set up a brand new system)

You know that's really the question. I have my tank up with fish and a few corals but no SPS right now. I'm waiting to get my QT ideas figured out before I go that route. I try not to think about that part of my last tank. It was just incredibly frustrating to watch that happen. To make it worse at the time AEFW were not as common as they are right now, so it wasn't readily apparent what the cause was.

I am planning on adding a ton of wrasses to the new tank in hopes that they will pick off any flat worms that end up in the main tank. But really I am just going on a hope at this point.

Hope is pretty much all we can do IMHO.
I've added lately 3 radiants/one yellow coris and two leopards 4 the same purpose.
but I know I know I have not seen them but they are hiding.
hey kip sorry again.

BTw is not an easy pill to swallow by any strecth but its part of the game.
