$26 plus shipping seems ok but it goes too much more than that IMO it's not worth it.

The 3004 Dumas propeller in that photo looks like it was put on backwards.

i could be wrong but almost sure its homemade

the magnet sure does resemble a hagen magnetic algea scrubber that has had the brillo taken off and sealed with epoxy to keep the rust from leaching in

You are absolutely right!!
you can find acrylic balls here and here , measure the id of pvc pipe first (1" sched 80=7/8" ball). Sand one end of the ball flat then weldon to a piece acrylic then to the back of the pump, make sure the ball is right on behind the magnet slot, this will eliminate the vibration when running. To glue pvc to magnet, I used high psi Loctite 2-part epoxy (white/beige color, not the clear one)

Anyone using a modded 900 on a 72g bowfront? I'm concerned it's too much flow but didn't know if the smallest prop would work. Right now I have 3 MJ900s and would love to ditch one for aesthetic reasons.

MJAnderson - I am using 2 of the 1200's with Dumas 3004 props (1.75") in my 72g bowfront. Took some trial and error to use both at the same time without blowing my ssb around, but I finally got it.

2 900,s modded would be plenty even for sps 1 would probably be plenty for lps and get you close to 20x,s tank flow

Thanks all. Are the parts sold by MJMods.com the most "current" versions of the mods? Seems many people have variations on the theme. Have any proven to be a big improvement?

most the different types are just for looks, trying out something fun or because people own different tools.

if ya got the tools and the time , the one pictured above looks nice and the stopper is a good idea.

Quangtam7,

Can you explain more how your stopper works? I can see how it holds the magnet from pulling out, but I don't see anything that actually does stop it from spinning. Everything is round on that side of the impeller so how does the slot stop it?? Does the magnet stop and go the other way just because it can't pull out?

Sorry if I'm missing something stupid...

Thanks!

the tangs on the impeller hits the 2 plastic squares on the side of the hole you see and spins it the rite way after impact

I think you meant "tabs" and not "tangs"? I would hate to use Tangs as a stopper for this mod. Imagine the persecution you would get from the Tang Police

Quangtam's shroud sure is purdy! I think that's the best mod design yet, there are only three things I see that keep it from being absolutely perfect:

1.) You can't use the tube-in magnet design, which seems much more solid/quality to me.

2.) The propeller/magnet assembly needs to be able to come apart due to the stop design. I think it may be possible to cut away one side of the stop so maybe you could use the tube-in magnet impeller and still be able to get your pump apart (though I haven't tried it).

3.) It takes a lot longer to make one of these than the "standard" mod.
