What kind of wrasse is this?
I got this fish with my tank. i know it is a wrasse, but I am not sure what kind. I was told it is a rare, blue tailed corris wrasse. If somone knows, please help me figure this out. I have never seen one in a book, LFS, or anywhere else.

It is a Coris of some kind. Supposedly there are 27 different kinds, but this one doesn't match the ones I see pictured. Cool fish! Here are the ones it Doesn't look like:
C. aygula C. ballieui C. batuensis C. caudimacula C. cuvieri C. formosa C. frerei C. gaimard C. julis C. picta C. pictoides C. sandeyeri C. variegata C. venusta |

Thanks for the advice, He's a beautiful fish that i had in my 215 gallon tank, but had to move him to a 46 gallon because of the compatability of the other fish. I know he's not as happy as he was, especially because he is about the length of my hand, but he has adjusted. I buy cherrystone clams from the grocery store for him to eat as a treat. They stay alive in the tank for a few months before he breaks into them. Its fun to watch!

Thumb through the coris listings on fishbase.
http://fishbase.org/NomenClature/Sci...ry&backstep=-2 The African Coris, used to be Coris gaimard africana, looks like a strong possibilty.

I thought that to, until I got curious and started looking at pictures on fishbase. Than I came to the conclusion that what I've seen from wholesalers as africana were not really africana
