uv sterilizer

I would like to know the people who use UV Sterilizer. How long do you have the UV on? Do you just turn it on and leave it alone or is it only on for a couple of hours a day?

40w on my 180 reef 365 days a year and I change the bulb every 9 months. 2 x 40w on my 400FO with the same cycle. Never without them for the past 10 years! MM

I also have a 40w on a 65 gallon, but only run it at night just so i could cut down the electric usage during the day. Otherwise I don't see a problem using it 24/7. It's inline that leaves my sump and goes directly into the tank.

Mine is on 24/7. Inline with the return pump and chiller.

80w H(igh)O(utput) on a 450. 24/7 on it's own loop.

is it posible to run the pump from the refugium and then to the main tank.. or will it kill of the critters?
