Angry Urchin "eating" new sea cucumber?

I know anything is possible but any reason why this urchin would munch on a new sea cucumber I put in last night? I got it from another member a while back and here was his picture.

This morning it was stuck on the side of the cuke and when I pulled it out it let go. The cuke is in my refugium now and is moving around like normal except for a white slimy patch on one of its sides where the urchin was muching.

I will see if the cuke acts normal for a while and hopefully it will recover.

Argh!

Those urchins also eat starfish as well. I would ditch the urchin, those little purple ones are bad news.

Personally, id keep the urchin before id keep the cuke!

Ive have the same, pink though, urchin for over two years now...great eater as stated...loves the coraline i have. Not an issue to date, knock on wood.

As for cukes...sure they are nice to have, but when it runs out of food, which it will...took mine about 7 months to do so....

IT died and took my tank months to recover!

IMO and FWIW.

Oh yeah...i have 2 starfish with that urchin, both are older.

cheers,
rich k.
