Thinking of switching to an iMac

How good are they at performing software that is designed for windows?

The kids have some software (many of them learning games) which are for Windows and it is a must that they can keep using them.

Would it work on an imac? I also heard there are two different ways of installing e.g. XP on a Mac. What would the difference/impact be?

Anything esse I should think of/worry about if making the switch?

Windows applications run at native speed, right along side your Mac applications if you're using Parallels Desktop.

You can also dual-boot but that's so barbaric.

that 24 inch imac is sexy.

only thing i worried about when making the switch was losing the ability to run windows but now that they are intel based there is no need to worry.

I have Parallels installed but I almost never use it.

I've been debating doing this as well. I really want a computer that does well with movie editing. I bought a hi-def video camera, and I'd like to edit them. My understanding is that this is a Mac's forte, and there's great software built in to the computer to do so. Is this correct? Supposedly the software with Windows Vista is pretty good for this as well, but if you decide to switch out a piece of hardware with Vista you pretty much have to do a reinstall (what I've heard, anyway).

The new Imacs are sweet! Never thought I'd consider buying one. Of course, my wife is adamantly opposed to one, as was I for the most part until I sat down at and toyed around with my mom's new Imac.

I'm fully planning on making the switch when my current computer dies and I have to buy a new laptop. If I had the $2500 for a new MacBook Pro I'd do it today as I really like the things I've seen.

Unfortunately I don't have that money so I'm going to have to wait .

Switch! I'm switching to a MacBookPro hopefully around xmas.. for now im running Tiger and can't wait to get leopard. Also look into www.vmware.com fusion. It allows you to run Windows apps if you can't find a program for OS/x. I only found one or two the first few months.. and then slowly replaced them.

Just remember that if you buy it over there, it will probably be in Dutch.

Got an imac but also a virus.

The virus is a flue virus.

Well had the worst now and I'm typing this on an imac.

Thanks folks!

I hope you enjoy your apple. I switched about 5 years ago, and Apple should send me a revenue sharing check. I own two 17" laptops, a 24" iMac desktop, and an iPhone. Just about every friend, coworker, and family member I've had close interaction with in the past 5 years has switched to some Apple product after playing with one of mine.
