Here's a different one...neon green rim and eyes with the body greenish with some purplish undertones. Tubs originally coined the "Alien Eye" name denoting the neon green eyes and rim. Since then I've seenall kinds of stuff posted as "Alien Eye" even if it just something bright.

So for those of us who arent American and have NFI what all of your "super coral names" refer to, what is the latin name of "Alien Eye Chalice"? echinophyllia?

Chalice corals refer to 5 genus: mycedium, echinophyllia, oxypora, echinopora, and most recently, echinomorpha which was once categorized under echinophyllia. There is no latin name for Alien Eye which is, like any other name, just a label for identification purposes. John "Tubs" Susbilla first coined that name when he "went public" with that particular coral which I believe is an Echinophyllia Aspera.
Hope that helps Sinistar

That helped, yes. Thank you.

I still disagree with using these common names, latin names make things so much easier.

Part of the name usage has to do with marketing as well. Alot of folks wouldnt know "Echinopora Pacificus vs. Echinopora Mammaformis" but would know "Awesome metallic blue with green eyes" etc...

And if you used the latin names, like herpers and leptoterists, you couldn't use the phrase "rare" on Ebay and make an extra $100.

Sorry, couldn't resist the fun.
