Help - crab eating trumpet!!
I just caught a crab that must have come in with the live rock eating one of my trumpet coral polyps. He got about half of it.
Now I need a good way to trap him, any ideas? I'll try and get some photos of the little cretin tonight if he decides to rear his ugly head.

Maybe you could get a glass and lean it up against the coral he last took a munch at. Then put some raw food inside the glass. Be sure it is tilted at such an angle that the crab and go in but no crawl out. That might get him.

small crabs are hard to catch. I useally try to watch it and wait for it to crawl in a rock, then remove the rock and fresh water dip or dig it out. I caught a tiny little black mantis shrimp yesterday in a small rock. I have him in a speciman container for now. He's neet to watch. I also picked up a fiberglass dowel rod a Lowes for about three bucks. It's in the section with for sale signs, beware of dog etc, etc. I stab things with it rather than catching. Patience my friend, lots of patience. If it's always in the same spot ,it may be easier to stab.
I have a large mantis in my 240 that I've been trying to catch for six weeks with four mantis traps. I've caught emeralds, red crabs, gobies, starfish, blue legs, peppermint shrimp but not the mantis. He's a smart little pest. Mantis trap from fishysupply.com is about $15. go to site then search and type in mantis. Here: http://www.fishsupply.com/cgi-bin/f2...SZ/SAMUL-MT001 |
