Orange Crush?

Can you show me some pics of your orange crush echinata please? I got a colony last night from a fellow reefer selling all for a move. When I looked at jendub's site her pic shows them as orange with green mouths and purple streaks. These are orange with green streaks and purple mouths. They are gorgeous, I will get a pic when the lights come up today.

The "original" Orange Crush echinata is ALL orange with some slight brown streaking in it here and there. The version that came shortly after, and was called "Green Mouth" Orange Crush, is the Orange with green mouth like Jens. Since then I think ALL echinatas that are primarily orange are being called Orange Crush for some reason. If they are split orange and green primarily, they are generally lumped in the 'Rainbow Echinata" group. Hope that helps.

Here is an old pic of a frag of original Orange Crush

Sweet jjmcat, do you have several or are those before and after pics? The guy who sold me this says he started with one polyp a year ago.

Couple pics of mine, not sure if it's a true orange crush though.

Cheers,

Yup!
Heres mine a month after I first got it, this pic was taken in July 06:

4 months later in Oct. 06:

and just this last Apr. 07:

I was keeping it shaded because I liked the form it was taking, needed the room and it didnt seem to mind. For the last 6 months it has been getting just indirect and refracted light, however I noticed the "glow" had diminished along with the green mottling and near the newgrowth edge and have since exposed it to direct light. Great coral, I was lucky enough to have a buddy that was willing to frag a few polyps off his colony. Im having a very hard time being as inhibited and have yet to be
Great addition though, dont think Ive had a visitor yet that hasnt asked about it

Do different morphs color up differently? Some of these morphs look very very dark orange while others aren't as dark.

Does lighting play a large role in how dark the green mouths and orange flesh is?

Thanks jjmcat, your colony is awesome!

epicfish: With my piece light plays a major role in coloration. The fact that it keeps it's color in low light and how nice an puffy is why I let it stay shaded, as well as not having much room But in doing so as you see doesnt have that dayglo orange look. Im pretty sure this is the case with the rainbow morphs as well, direct light will just make the orange pop. Ive since moved mine into more direct light. Once I get rid of some of my loose frags, I'll be able to put him more front and center to get that amazing orange color again.

I got mine from a fellow reefer who had it under MHs, but through 24-27" of water plus another 8" of air...so lots of space.

Mine is pretty much directly under the MHs in my 20" tall tank, so a lot more intense light (or so I believe). You think this'll make it color up better? 14K Phoenix bulb.

Up to 7" is a very considerable difference with light penetration with water especially the deeper you go . Even on the sandbed getting direct light it may appear a little brighter for you in your tank based on the assumption the only difference is depth, which again, for a 250w to be firing over a 27" tank opposed to a 20" tank is very considerable in differences in regards to more light hitting the sandbed.

So basically, yup!
