RBTA shirveled up
Hey all,
My RBTA was doing great for awhile but recently it has spent about 50% of the day shriveled and then over night it would be normal again. Today is spent most of its time in a little ball with its tentacles deflated. Is it normal for it to do this for about a week or is something wrong? Any idea what could be causing this? Tank params are all good I've been testing recently for SPS problems but seem to have fixed it all. Here is a pic: Last edited by GuOD; 08/04/2007 at 06:21 PM. |

My anemone will do that every once in awhile, when something is wrong. Sometimes it's hard to pin point exactly what the problem is but it is usually fixed with a water change.
after the water change the anemone goes to looking healthy again. |

Well - I did a water change last night because I was scheduled to anyway. The anemone has since moved and opened up a bit... kinda weird because it had been in the same place a long time!

Are you using RO water? I am a big advocate of using RO water when keeping such sensitive inverts.

No - my RODI broke a long time ago (before I got this anemone)
I've had a sebae for 6+ months in tap water and it's growing/perfectly healthy |

Go and get some RO/DI. Tap water chemistry changes too fast to take a chance on this expansive hobby.

Well I did a waterchange last night and this afternoon I came back to all of my fish breathing heavily - not sure why exactly at all. I looked at the anemone and it seems to be in bad shape. Is this anemone dying? Half of it seems to have lost its color.
I'm going to try and make the switch back to RODI but I'm not sure when/if I'll be able to. |

Mine will do that from time to time, but after a couple of hours it is back and fully extended in the water current. It seems quite normal to me to see this kind of activity. Jon

Sorry I didn't clarify - It used to do this for a few hours a day... it's now been this way for 2 days... and doesn't seem to be improving.
I don't really know what I can do to help it... I just want to make sure it isn't going to die or anything... My another anemone is still doing great as I type. |

My anemone's condition hasn't improved at all.
It's still shriveled up and moved kinda deep into a crevice... Is it preparing to die? I don't want this thing to die in my tank. |

can u go to Walmart and get some rO/DI water for the time being?
I'm going to assume it is a water quality issue. |

I would get RO water ASAP before it dies , looks like it`s on it`s way as it is . Just because your other nem is ok doesn`t mean there isn`t a problem . Not sure if you have it , but here is a good link about RBTAs and their care . http://www.karensroseanemones.com/index.htm
