How many people have a reef tank w/o fish??
Just curious if there are any members that have a tank with just corals, inverts, and LR and no fish?? My AP24 has been up for over 2 years know and has only hosted one clown fish (died to Brook Disease) I am slowly starting to fill up my tank with new corals, and some new inverts. I want to add a clown fish or a pair of Bangghai Cardinals.......but I kind of like the no fish look to the tank. Jon

I have a 10 reef that has never had a fish in it (it's almost a year old). I like the ease of a fishless tank. I have it stocked so that it does not require feeding (other then the Pep. shrimp) so my param's are always perfect and mantainence is much more simple. JMO.

I've seen quite a few, my friend has a 90g w/ not one fish, just coral.
Although I think alot of corals do benefit from fish poo.

I have a reef without fish, as well as one with just a single firefish.

I have too fishless tanks, it's easier.
While I like the look of the fish in the tank too, when tank care becomes bothersome - the fish have to go, in the big tank with other fish. |

Does a 29 gallon cold water tank count? I got one, it was cool for awhile. I got a bunch of sponges growing in it. The biggest thing people say about it is "Hey Kurt, where are the fish in here?"

I take a minimal fish approach. I believe the reef environment does benefit from fish. I have 1 tank with just a clown and a firefish. The other contains only pairs (fairy wrasse pair, clown pair, and goby/pistol pair). These fish produce minimal waste but some waste is needed (keeps cleanup crew going once all the algae and other goodies have been consumed). My maintenance routine is very easy and both tanks are healthy.

my LFS has a bowfront corner reef tank with no fish at all. the tank is beautiful. people are always staring at the tank for a few minutes before asking "where are the fish?"

Fishless reefs are much easier, IMO.

I too have a reef tank without fish. I find it has a greater bio-diversity of little critters - as well as less waste to remove. I try to have a nice mix of incerts to keep it interesting.
