How high are your halides?

How high is the "average" metal halide off of the water. I'm trying to decide if a 12" canopy will do the trick...

thanks,
smariner

My canopy is 12", so i'd say the bottom of the bulb is about 10.5" away from the water.
All is well
Angela.

Thanks, I'm in the process of putting together a 360(84"(L)x32"(W)x30"(H) SPS only setup and wanted to be sure that 12" would do it... It's going to have 5 400 Watt Halides(3 6500's and 2 20K's) as well as VHO's.

fcam44: You have heat problems w/ them at close? Anyone else running that close in a canopy? I assume that you have an appx 10" canopy?

thanks...

I'm re-doing the tank now but when it was running I just had 2 big fans off the back blowing around...between the airflow and evaporation I was fine.

Woohoo, I can finally participate in MH conversations! I just got my hanging canopy for my 29 put together.. I've got a 250w Iwasaki suspended about 9" from the water level. Man, what a difference compared to VHO's

The height really depends on:

your tank depth
your MH wattage
heat problem?

I am having a very shallow (~16") tank, I hang my 2x150 HQI above my open-top tank approximately 12 inches.
