Hi:
I am new to anenomes and clownfish. What exactly do BTA's look like? How do I take care of them? Will A. ocellaris be hosted in them? Thanks. |

Ok, Lionfish, bruddah, I've checked into it - Yes, Ocellaris will host in them, they are generally easy to take care of. seems they like a sandy bed, so they can burrow some of their foot into it. Apears that they are fairly hardy. Tend to like to be fed once a week (some people feed them small silver sides, don't know what those are, but I do know my LFS doesn't sell em)
As far as lighting does, BTA's seem to do OK under fluorescent, so I think I'm a go for getting one. HTH - CR

BTA's actually attach their feet to a crevice in the rock and not the sand bed. They are not as light demanding as many of the other host anemones but still should have good lighting.
As far as food goes, they will usually eat silver sides, shrimp and krill for starters. They are not a natural host for Ocellaris but have been known to associate with them in captivity.

Silver sides are little schooling fish (best way to describe them I guess), shrimp will do just fine also.
and chicorodriguez. I would not put a BTA under NO lighting, and feed it once a week. Unless you have PCs or VHO lights forget about it (Please make sure you can provide it with a good living environment before purchasing one). Supplemental feeding with BTAs is something that you should do unless you have MH lighting (which it doesnt seem to matter at that point). I feed my BTA every 2-3 days, silversides, to keep it looking good and healthy. and they will host Ocellaris, it's just a matter of how luck you are

Yes, you need a power compact and just like liv4speed1 says, you should feed them to keep them healthy.
I would say you need at least 4-5w per gallon of Power Compact, they penatrate better than VHO, and about 5-6w per gallon of VHO to keep the bubble happy with lighting. Mine is acting like a mushroom cloud towards the light right now, he may be trying to get more light or just adjusting to the tank.

well, that's what I'd shoot for
I believe that feeding is the most important thing to keeping an anemone healthy (other than water quality of course, thats vital). And lighting is just a supplement when it's not digesting food. That's my view though, a lot of people on this board dont share it, but it's what I've come to believe and it has worked for me so far.
