kalkwasser .....again. supplement to C-ballance?
Ok Ive had my reef running for about 11 months now. Its to the piont where Ive added sps and the coraline is really thick. I have noticed lately that Im really running through the (2part) C-balance and its getting expensive.
Is kalk something I would use in addition to C-balance? What is pickling lime and how is it used? How do you know how much kalk to dose? Thanks so much |

Pickling Lime is Kalk, both are calcium hydroxide. An excellent way to manage calcium and alkalinity. You would no longer need C-balance though.
To use, you would pre-dissolve the lime in water, about 2 Tbsn/gal. Some sediment will form. Add the clear liquid to your tank in a drip-wise way. Check out the Reef Chemistry forum here on RC. There you will find lots of write-ups on the use of Lime.

before i went to a calcium reactor i used the kalk drip. I noticed more growth with the kalk than I did w/ the 2 part solution. personally i would get the calcium reactor if you are going through alot of 2 part solution
